Gracon Awarded Elephant Butte Dam Gate Hoist Replacement Project

Gracon was awarded a gate hoist replacement project for the Bureau of Reclamation. Work will take place at Elephant Butte Dam which holds 2 million acre-feet of water and was the largest dam in the world when it was built in 1916.

Gracon’s scope of work includes disassembling five slide gate hoists, coating the five 5’x4’ slide gates and penstocks, replacing the gate hoists, and installing new hydraulic and electric controls. Work will commence in late 2016 and carry on during winter outages of 2016 and 2017 with an estimated completion date of March, 2018.

This project was the second awarded to Gracon by the Bureau of Reclamation in September. Another gate project at Lemon Dam is currently underway.
