Gracon was founded in 1981 by Gerald R. Ashbach in Berthoud, Colorado (G-R-A from his initials, and C-O-N for Construction).
1983: Granite Reef Aqueduct, First Tainter Gate Project.

Gracon was awarded its first tainter gate project by the US Bureau of Reclamation in 1983.
1983: Titan II Missile Silo Dismantlement

In 1983 US Army Corps of Engineers awarded Gracon the Titan II Dismantlement project for 17 of the 18 missile sites near Tucson Arizona.
1987: Misty Picture Project, Simulated Nuclear Explosion

In 1987 the Defense Nuclear Agency awarded Gracon the Helium Flow and Control Contract portion of the Misty Picture Project.
1989: First Hydroelectric Project, Waddell Pump-Generating Plant

In 1989, Gracon was awarded its first hydroelectric project as a subcontractor to Voith Hydro.
1990: Rocky Mountain Project, First Large Piping Project
1 January, 1990
Gracon performed piping system work for the Oglethorpe Power owned Rocky Mountain Project near Rome, Georgia.
1990: Grand Forks AF Base, First of 20 Years of SABER Contracting

Gracon was awarded the first SABER contract at Grand Forks AFB in August of 1990.
1992: Roosevelt Embedded Scroll Case Removal and Replacement

Gracon worked as a subcontractor to Neyrpic Hydro (subsequently GE Alstom) on the Roosevelt Dam Power Plant rebuild for the US Bureau of Reclamation.

During 1996 Gracon was awarded its first JOC’s (Job Order Contract) at Ft. Bragg, NC, Fort Dum, NY, Ft/ Rucker, AL and an IDIQ project at White Sands Missile Range, NM/Ft. Bliss, TX.
1997: Friant Dam Gate Largest Obermeyer Gate

Gracon was the prime contractor on the Friant Dam, California contract for the US Bureau of Reclamation to replace two 100’ long drum gates with 18’ high air actuated steel crest gates designed and furnished by Obermeyer Hydro.
1998: First Campus Piping Project, University of Northern Colorado

Gracon wins their first campus piping project, High Temperature, Hot Water Piping, was with the University of Northern Colorado.
2000: Headgate Rock Powerplant, First Digital Governor Conversion

Gracon established a strong relationship with Woodward Governor (and later, GE) in 2000 when we converted the mechanical governor system at Headgate Rock Power Plant to a digital governor system.
2004: Hathida Dam Power Plant, First International Project

Gracon traveled to Iraq to inspect and report on the facility with CH2M Hill in the spring of 2004, one year after US Army Rangers seized the dam to prevent its destruction by Iraqi forces under Saddam Hussein’s control.
2008: Crisis City First Responder Training Site, First LEED Building

Gracon built this unique Design-Build project for the State of Kansas Division of Emergency Management.
2012: Lewiston Powerhouse, Multi-Year, Multi-Unit Hydropower Project

In 2012, Gracon started disassembly, refurbishment, and reassembly on the first of twelve vertical Allis Chalmers pump/turbine generators for Hitachi at the Lewiston Pump Generating Plant.
2014: Gracon LLC

In July 2014, Gracon LLC was formed with the purchase of Gracon Corporation.
2018: Gracon Relocates From Loveland to Lafayette
1 January, 2018
Gracon outgrew our existing facilities and relocated to Lafayette.
2019: Partners with Dahlgren Industrial
1 January, 2019
Gracon and Dahlgren Industrial announced a permanent Joint Venture between the companies.
