23 Jan Gracon Receives Contract on 7th Consecutive Hydro Unit Near Niagara Falls
Gracon was awarded a contract from Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) to rehabilitate the 7th of 12 units at the Lewiston Pump-Generating Plant. Over the past four years, Gracon has already rehabilitated the first 6 units with remarkable quality and timeliness. New York Power Authority (NYPA) is the owner of the hydroelectric power plant.
Ryann Lovette, Project Engineering Manager for MHPS said, “Gracon’s knowledge of the work provided exceeded expectations to MHPS and NYPA. This knowledge and professionalism was key in providing guidance and understanding to the client.”
Work on the 7th unit will include disassembling, refurbishing, and reassembling a vertical Allis Chalmers pump/turbine generator.
“Gracon is proud to continue working with Mitsubishi Hitachi to rehabilitate these hydro units to the high-quality standards our company has been known for.” Says Michael Earwood, Gracon’s Vice President of Operations.
The rehabilitation effort is expected to begin in late February and last for about 7 months.
