City of Bedford awards contract to Gracon for the rehabilitation of Snowden Hydroelectric Facility

Gracon recently signed a contract with the City of Bedford to perform complete unit rehabilitation on Unit #5 at the Snowden Hydroelectric facility located on the James River near Snowden, Virginia.  Once the outage is completed, which is expected to take 130 days, it is anticipated the rehabilitated unit will extend the life of this hydroelectric asset for another 30 years. The main component of the refurbishment will be the restoration of the 3000mm Kaplan turbine runner assembly which has not been disassembled since 1987.

Gracon personnel in Colorado and Pennsylvania will perform the removal of the turbine runner, coordinate the highly technical refurbishment, and ensure the reinstallation of the entire unit to industry standards for machines of this variety.  Once mechanically complete, this 2.5 megawatt green energy resource will be recommissioned for connection to the electrical grid.
